Eating the right amount and type of food is important for all of us. Children aged two years and older can get the nutrients and calories they need to grow and develop by following Canada’s Food Guide.
Canada’s Food Guide recommends including foods from each of the four food groups — Vegetables and Fruit, Grain Products, Milk and Alternatives, and Meat and Alternatives — plus a small amount of added oils and fats.

Children aged nine to 13 should have six Food Guide Servings of Vegetables and Fruit and six Food Guide Servings of Grain Products every day.
Since 2007, many food manufacturers have reduced the trans fat content of their products.
Nutrition labelling became mandatory for all prepackaged foods in Canada in 2007.
