Physical Activity

Being active - for life

Physical activity is an important part of healthy living at any age, and it's absolutely essential for children.

Physical activity helps children

  • develop cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility and bone density;
  • maintain a healthy body weight;
  • reduce the risk of several diseases and health problems; and
  • lessen the likelihood of tobacco, alcohol and drug use.

Making regular physical activity a habit at an early age will provide your child with lifelong benefits. Adults with higher levels of fitness are able to carry out their daily tasks more easily and with less fatigue and, later in life, enjoy lower rates of bone loss associated with osteoporosis while also maintaining strength, flexibility, balance and coordination.

Do you eat healthy? Are you physically active? Are you at a healthy weight?

Did you know that Canada is facing a childhood obesity epidemic? Everyone needs to take action today to support the healthy development of children and youth and to prevent health problems related to overweight and obesity.
