Railway Safety Tips for Commuters
Tips
Travel safe
Two of the main types of trains used in Canada to transport people are passenger trains, which travel long distances; and commuter trains, which provide public transportation for people between major urban centres. When you’re in a train station or riding a train with children, keep the following safety tips in mind:
- Always keep your children in sight and close by.
- Stand well back from the safety lines painted parallel to the platform edge until it is safe to board.
- Walk children carefully over the gaps between the platform and train when boarding and de-boarding.
- Enter and exit the train only where designated.
- In multi-track areas, pay attention to other trains’ movements.
