Measles & Rubella Weekly Monitoring Report: March 6 to March 12, 2016 (week 10)
- In Canada, 2 new cases of measles were reported for week 10, 2016, by British Columbia and Ontario.

- A total of 4 cases of measles, and 0 cases of rubella have been reported in Canada in 2016.

During epidemiological week 10, 2016, 2 new cases of measles were reported by British Columbia and OntarioFootnote 1. Both cases had rash onset in week 09, and both were importations exposed to measles during separate travel to Pakistan (cases are unrelated).
No cases of rubella were reported. It has been 105 weeks since the last reported rubella case (week 10, 2014).
The year-to-date total is 4 cases of measles and 0 cases of rubella for 2016 (Figure 1).

There are currently two activeFigure 2 - Footnote * cases of measles in Canada, reported in British Columbia and the Eastern region of Ontario (Figure 2). There are no reported active cases of rubella in Canada (figure not shown).
To date in 2016, measles cases have been reported in two Canadian provinces: British Columbia and Ontario.

To date in 2016, 2 measles cases have been genotyped and the genotypes were B3 (n=1) and D8 (n=1) (Figure 3).

Epidemiological weeks for laboratory specimens are assigned in accordance with WHO guidelines (WHO.WER.2012;9(87):73) with week 1 beginning on the first Monday of the year.

To date in 2016, no rubella cases have been reported. As such, no genotype information is available for 2016.
