Hazard identified
The products do not carry the mandatory labelling as required by the Consumer Chemicals and Containers Regulations, 2001. The containers lack the symbols and warnings required for toxic, flammable and irritant products as well as products in pressurized containers. These omissions could present a significant risk that may result in serious harm.
In addition to the lack of mandatory labelling, some of the reed diffuser oil products do not carry the required child-resistant closures and contain ingredients that can be hazardous if aspiration occurs.
Aspiration occurs when the product is coughed up or vomited after being ingested. This coughing/vomiting could cause small particles of the product to travel into the lungs and may result in serious health effects. Neither Hillhouse Naturals nor Health Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these products.

Number sold
Approximately 402 of the reed diffuser oils, 90 of the refresher oils and 90 of the fragrance mists were sold in various stores across Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from May 2009 to December 2012.
