Porter-Cable 3¼ HP fixed-base production routers and router bases

Product description

This recall involves Porter-Cable Speedmatic 3¼ HP fixed-base production routers and router base, manufactured prior to March 13, 2014 and bearing the a date code prior to 2014.

The following routers and bases are included in this recall:

Single speed router base 7519
Router base 75361
Single speed router with extended chuck 7519EC
Single speed router using 220V power source 22-7519-60

The router model number and the manufacture date code are on a metal plate on the back of the upper motor housing. The date code consists of the year of manufacture, the week of manufacture and the manufacturing plant code in the YYYY WW-XX format.

Hazard identified

The recalled units have uninsulated handles on the base.  The lack of electrically insulated grasping surfaces on the router base may not comply with certification mark requirements, and may present a risk of electric shock and personal injury.

Neither Health Canada nor Porter Cable has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of these products.

Number sold

Approximately 7,817 units were sold in Canada and approximately 101,000 units were sold in the United States at various retailers.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from 1990 through April 2014 in Canada and the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Mexico and other countries.

What you should do

Consumers with affected products should immediately stop using the recalled routers and router bases, unplug the routers and contact Porter-Cable for a free replacement router base.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
