Product description

This recall involves Sonic Brake fluid DOT 3 in a white 350 mL bottle with the following model number 35-883SO and UPC 57316108005.

The affected products can be identified as they were sold in a white bottle, as opposed to the traditional black bottle.

Do not use the "Brake Fluid" in the white bottle, as it may contain Power Steering Fluid.

Hazard identified

The product was labelled as Brake Fluid DOT 3, but contains Power Steering Fluid.  Using this product could result in a failure of the braking system.

As of June 23, 2017, the company has received no reports of brake system failure or report of injuries in Canada.

Number sold

Approximately 1500 units of the affected products were sold across Canada.

Time period sold

The products were sold from September 2016 to June 2017.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Canada.

What you should do

Consumers who have used this product in their braking system should not drive their vehicle and should have it towed to their preferred service station for a full brake fluid flush of the braking system. Consumers should advise the Service Technician that the brake system may be contaminated with Power Steering Fluid.

Consumers should retain the bottle of Brake Fluid (or a copy of the receipt) and call 1-800-361-6030 (EST) for instructions on reimbursement for the brake fluid flush service.

Consumers who have purchased this product, and have not used it should return it to the store where the purchase was made for a full refund. Do not use the "Brake Fluid" in the white bottle, as it may contain Power Steering Fluid.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.

Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
