Joint recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Vita-Mix Corporation

Affected products

Ascent™ and Venturist™ Series 8-ounce and 20-ounce Blending Containers

Product description

This recall involves Ascent™ and Venturist™ series 8-ounce (approximately 236 milliliter) and 20-ounce (approximately 592 milliliter) blending containers, which are used with Vitamix Venturist™ Model 1200 and Ascent™ series blenders. The clear blending containers have a black base with the Vitamix™ logo etched on the side of the blending container. The containers were sold separately and with Vitamix Venturist™ Model 1200 blenders.

Only containers marked with blade date codes March 2018 ("03-18") or earlier are included in this recall. If the blade base is marked on the bottom with a green or orange dot, the container has already been repaired. The blade date code is laser-etched onto the top of the blade in the blade base.

Hazard identified

The container can separate from the blade base exposing the blades, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.

As of July 31, 2018, the company has received one report in Canada of a consumer receiving finger lacerations from contact with the blades after the container separated from the blade base, resulting in the consumer requiring stitches.  In the United States, the company has received 11 similar reports.

Number sold

Approximately 5,332 units of the affected products were distributed for sale in Canada and approximately 104,000 were manufactured for sale in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from April 2017 to July 2018 in Canada and the United States.
