Hazard identified
Testing by Health Canada on the Zolo Zippy Buggy revealed that the surface paint on the toy contains barium in excess of the allowable limit.
Some forms of barium are safely used in medical and commercial applications, while other forms of barium can be toxic, causing adverse health effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and cramps as well as more severe symptoms. Children's toys coated with paint containing barium, in excess of the allowable limit, are strictly prohibited in Canada.
Kushies Baby is extending the recall to include the Zolo Zippy Ozlo and the Zolo Zippy Scoot, as these toys may present the same hazard.
Health Canada has not received reports of illness or injury to Canadians related to the use of these toys.
Number sold
Approximately 172 of the toys were sold in Canada.
Time period sold
The wooden toys were sold from approximately August 2006 until August 2008 at various toy, educational and variety stores nationwide.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.
