Stanley® Stud Sensor 200 and Stanley® FatMax® Stud Sensor 400

Product description

This recall involves the Stud Sensor 200 and FatMax® Stud Sensor 400 that were sold under the brand name Stanley®. The sensors are made of black plastic and have a wide yellow stripe down the centre. The words "Stanley" or "FatMax" are printed on the front of the product. The recalled products have model numbers 77-720 and 77-730, which can be located in a slide-out reference guide on the base of the sensor's handle.

A date code can be found printed on the inside of the battery cover. Products with a date code that begin with the letter "R" are not included in this recall.

Hazard identified

The stud sensor can fail to calibrate properly and detect AC electrical wires behind the wall, posing a shock hazard to the user.

Neither Stanley nor Health Canada has received any reports of injuries or incidents related to the use of these products.

Number sold

Approximately 18,500 of the recalled products were sold at Wal-Mart, Rona and Home Depot retail stores across Canada.

Time period sold

The products were sold from November 2007 to January 2009 at Wal-Mart, Rona and Home Depot retail stores across Canada.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Hong Kong.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled stud sensors and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement sensor.
