Product description

This recall involves the Spacemaker™ Coffeemaker by Black and Decker®. The coffeemaker has an under-cabinet mount, programmable digital clock-timer, removable water reservoir, and either a 12-cup glass carafe or an 8-cup thermal carafe.

The recalled coffeemakers have one of the following model numbers: ODC440, ODC440B, ODC450, or ODC460. The model number can be found on the back of the coffeemaker.

Hazard identified

The brew basket can shift out of alignment, allowing hot water to overflow. This poses a scalding and burn hazard to consumers.

Applica Canada Corp. has received 47 reports of incidents where consumers had some type of contact with hot water, including reports of burns and scalding.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this product.

Number sold

Approximately 85,200 units of the recalled coffeemakers were sold at various retailers across Canada, including Bed Bath and Beyond, Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, London Drugs, Sears Canada, Walmart Canada, and Zellers.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from March 2006 to March 2009.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.
