Toro Power Sweep Electric Blower

Product description

This recall involves Toro Power Sweep electric blowers with model number 51586 and serial numbers that range between 000055100 and 220255609. The model and serial numbers can be found on a decal on the blower.

The recalled blowers have the words "Toro Power Sweep" written on another decal on the product, and a black impeller fan, which can be seen through the air inlet screen on the bottom of the unit.

The recalled electric blowers were manufactured between 2000 and 2002. For more information pertaining to the original recall, please visit the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority's (ESA) recall notice: The Toro Company Recalls Electric Blowers Due to Projectile Hazards.

Hazard identified

The electric blower's impeller, which is a rotating component, can break and result in pieces of plastic flying out of the blower. This poses a risk of serious injury to the user or bystander.

Toro has received 1 report of an incident in Canada involving a minor injury. In total, Toro has received 171 reports of broken impellers, including 32 reports of minor cuts and bruises resulting from projected impeller pieces.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these electric blowers.

Number sold

Approximately 5000 of the recalled products were sold at Toro dealers and Home Depot stores in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from January 2000 to December 2002.
