Homelite Backpack Blower
Product description
This recall involves two Homelite models of backpack blowers: UT08580 and UT08580A. The model number and date of manufacture are included on the product's data label located on the red plastic housing above the choke knob and adjacent to the fuel tank.
The backpack blower models subject to this recall were manufactured from July 2007 to June 2009.
Products with the letters "CA" embossed on the fuel tank or a green dot on the outside of the package are not included in this recall.
Hazard identified
The backpack blowers are equipped with fuel tanks that may leak gasoline, posing a potential fire hazard to the consumer.
In the United States, Homelite Consumer Products, Inc. has received 18 reports of fuel tanks leaking gasoline, including one report of minor skin irritation.
Neither Homelite Consumers Products, Inc. nor Health Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians relating to the use of these backpack blowers.
Number sold
Approximately 4,600 of the recalled products were sold at Home Depot stores and various on-line retailers across Canada.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold in Canada from July 2007 and October 2009.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled backpack leaf blower and contact Homelite Consumer Products Inc. to obtain the location of the nearest Homelite authorized service centre where the fuel tank will be replaced free of charge.
