Product description
This recall involves the rechargeable batteries that were sold with Coby DVD/CD/MP3 players. The DVD/CD/MP3 players have an 8 ½ inch screen and the word "Coby" printed on the front cover of the product. The affected players have the product number TF-DVD-8501, which can be found on the bottom of the unit.
The recalled rechargeable batteries sold with the above DVD players have serial numbers that begin with the letters "HY". The serial number can be found on a white sticker affixed to the battery.
Hazard identified
The rechargeable batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
Coby Electronics Corp. has received 10 reports of batteries overheating, including eight reports of fires resulting in property damage, with no reported injuries.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these batteries.
Number sold
Approximately 3,050 of the recalled products were sold at retail stores in Ontario and Quebec regions.
Time period sold
The recalled products were sold from January 2007 to September 2009 across Canada.
Place of origin
Manufactured in China.

What you should do
Consumers should immediately remove the recalled batteries from the unit and contact Coby Electronics to receive a free replacement battery.
Consumers may continue to use the DVD/CD/MP3 players with AC or DC power adapters until they receive the replacement battery.
