Testing by Health Canada has determined that these products contain organic solvents; children's balloon blowing kits that contain organic solvents have been banned in Canada since 1973.
When children blow balloons with these kits, they are exposed to and may inhale the vapours of the solvents that are present. Children can be fascinated with these products, using them for extended periods of time, which may lead to early symptoms of central nervous system depression or dysfunction, including euphoria, hallucinations, dizziness, and difficulties with coordination of voluntary movements. Prolonged exposure can lead to more serious symptoms including muscle twitching, unconsciousness, and coma.
Neither Health Canada nor Dollarama have received reports of illness or injury related to the use of the Slimosaurus balloon blowing kits.
