Product description

This voluntary recall involves two styles of base panels in Sandstone and Gardenview Gazebos sold by Canadian Tire Corporation.

  • The Sandstone Gazebo can be identified by the Canadian Tire Product code #88-0422.
  • The Gardenview Gazebo has a beige canopy and base panels on an hexagonal beige steel frame, and includes mosquito netting and a bar table. It measures approximately 3.4x3.9x2.7m. It can be identified by the Canadian Tire product code #88-0383.

Only the base panels of all Sandstone and select Gardenview Gazebos are included in this recall.

Hazard identified

Testing has revealed that the materials used in the base panels of these gazebos do not meet the requirements for tent flammability under Canadian law. The base panels could easily catch fire if exposed to a flame or other ignition source and cause severe burns to consumers.

Neither Health Canada nor Canadian Tire Corporation have received reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these gazebos.

For more information about tent related hazards, visit Health Canada's Tents.

What you should do

Customers using the recalled gazebos are asked to follow instructions below to identify non-compliant gazebo base panels. If the base panels in gazebos are found to be non-compliant, customers should remove them immediately and contact Sunjoy Industries to have replacement base panels shipped to them free of charge. The replacement panels will come with instructions for easy installation.

Instructions for identifying non-compliant gazebo base panels:

The nylon used in the canopy of all Gardenview and Sandstone Gazebos is compliant. Customers should check if the material used in the gazebo canopy and base panels are the same. If not, the gazebo base panels are made of textalene and are not compliant. Customers will need to replace them immediately. If the materials used in the canopy and base panels are the same, customers have a compliant gazebo and do not need to take any further action.

The textalene fabric is not compliant for use on gazebos and is found on the base panels of the Sandstone Gazebos and select Gardenview Gazebos sold between 2007 and 2010. Textalene fabric, commonly referred to as sling, is transparent as compared to nylon material.

The nylon fabric is compliant for use on gazebos and is currently on the canopy of both the gazebos and has been updated on the majority of the base panels of Gardenview gazebos sold in 2010.
