Joint Recall with Chuck E. Cheese's, Health Canada, and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC)

Affected products

Children's Light-up Rings and Star Glasses

Product description

This recall involves 2 types of children's toys sold at Chuck E. Cheese's.

The first item is a light-up ring that was sold as part of a promotional plastic treasure cup. The plastic ring comes in several colours (blue, green, purple, yellow, and pink) and is in the shape of the Chuck E. Cheese mouse. The ring can be found in the treasure chest atop the lid of the cup. The on/off button for the light is on the inside of the ring.

The second item is a pair of red translucent plastic light-up glasses in the shape of stars. "Chuck E. Cheese's" is written on the side arm of the star glasses. The on/off button for the lights is on the bridge of the star glasses.

Hazard identified

If crushed or pulled apart, the plastic casing on the light-up rings and star glasses can break apart and expose the button-sized batteries; these small batteries pose an ingestion hazard to children.

Chuck E. Cheese's is aware of two incidents in the United States where the plastic casing of the light up ring was crushed or pulled apart. This resulted in one incident of a battery being swallowed and another of a battery being inserted into the nostril.

Health Canada has not received any reports of injuries or incidents related to the use of these products.

For some tips to help consumers choose safe toys and to help them keep children safe when they play with toys, see Health Canada's Toy Safety Tips.
