Evenflo®, Top-of-Stair™ Plus Wood Gate

Product description

This recall involves Evenflo® Top-of-Stair™ Plus Wood Gates with model number 10502. The model number can be found on the bottom rail. Only products with a date of manufacture between October 2007 and July 2009 are included in this recall. The date appears on the gate next to the model number. The recalled wood gates can also be identified by UPC 032884145652.

This recall does not include Top-of-Stair™ Wood Gates with model number 1050C, 10503, or 10513.

Hazard identified

The wooden slats on the gate can break or detach, posing a fall hazard when the gate is used at the top of a staircase.

In Canada, Evenflo® has received 26 reports of incidents, including one minor injury.

In the United States, Evenflo® has received reports of 142 incidents and 11 minor injuries such as bumps, scrapes and scratches. Also an additional two children gained access to the stairs and fell down some stairs.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of this product.

Number sold

Approximately 33,220 of the recalled products were sold at Toys R Us and other retailers in Canada and 150,000 in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from December 2007 to September 2009 in Canada, and from October 2008 to July 2009 in the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in Mexico.
