Product description

This recall involves a metallic bracelet and a pack of 2 metallic necklaces.

The metallic bracelet is silver-coloured and has a metallic charm in the shape of a peace sign. The recalled bracelet has the numbers "11-3008033" on the front of the paper backing on which it was sold. The backing also claims that the product is "Nickel-Free/Sans Nickel" and "Lead-Free/Sans Plomb".

The pack of metallic necklaces has the brand name "Sandy" and includes 2 silver-coloured chains. Each chain has a yellow heart-shaped pendant engraved with a picture of a green dog. The two pendants are not the same size. The packaging has SKU #11-3005180 and claims that the product is "sans plomb/Lead-free".

Hazard identified

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the recalled pieces of jewellery contain lead in excess of the allowable limit. Lead is very toxic to children, even at low exposure levels. Children can ingest harmful amounts of lead when they chew, suck, or swallow jewellery items containing lead.

Neither Health Canada nor Deejay Inc. has received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of these products.

Number sold

Approximately 5,994 pieces of the recalled peace sign bracelets and 3,912 of the heart-shaped pendant necklaces were sold at dollar stores across Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled necklaces were sold from September 2008 to April 2010, while the recalled bracelets were sold from January 2010 to April 2010.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewellery away from children and dispose of them. Consumers are asked to contact their municipality for instructions on disposing items containing lead.
