Product description

This recall involves Makita portable gas generators with model number G1700i. Recalled generators can be identified by serial numbers in the following ranges:

  • Serial number #3000003 to #3000688
  • Serial number #3010003 to #3021505
  • Serial number #6000001 to #6017296
  • Serial number #8000001 to #8004382.

Hazard identified

A crack may develop in the neck of the fuel tank, causing gasoline to leak.

Neither Makita Canada Inc. nor Health Canada has received reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these portable generators.

Number sold

Approximately 677 units of the recalled generators were sold at Home Hardware, Home Depot and various independent retail stores across Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled portable generators were sold from September 2003 and February 2009.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled generators and contact Makita Canada Inc. for further instructions.

Consumers will be instructed to send their generator to the nearest Makita Canada Factory Service Centre to have a newly modified fuel tank installed.
