Product description

This recall involves "Blade"-brand ultra-micro indoor/outdoor model helicopters that have red and blue canopies. The name "Blade mCP X" is printed on both sides of the canopy.

The following model numbers are included in this recall; the model number is printed on the underside of the product packaging, along with the UPC.

Hazard identified

The main rotor blades and main rotor grips can release from the main rotor head while in use. This poses an impact or laceration hazard to the user or persons nearby.

Horizon Hobby has received 337 reports of the rotor blades releasing from the rotor head, including 34 reports of a blade striking a user. This has resulted in 16 laceration injuries.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to the use of these helicopters.

Number sold

Approximately 1,260 of the recalled helicopters were sold at hobby and specialty stores across Canada.

In the United States, approximately 12,420 of the recalled helicopters and 3,360 of the replacement blade grips were sold nationwide.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold in March 2011 in Canada and in the United States.

Place of origin

Manufactured in China.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helicopters and contact Horizon Hobby to receive free replacement blade grips.
