Product description

This recall involves Baléa Kids Hair Putty in Tropical Fruit Punch Scent sold at Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix. The hair styling product is packaged in a 150 ml clear jar. The product has a green label with a red cartoon porcupine and "Tropical Fruit Punch" on the front.

The product can be identified by UPC 057800741640. Only lot code C117 is affected by this recall. The lot code can be found on the bottle directly underneath the bar code. All other lot codes of this product are safe for sale and use.

Hazard identified

Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix is voluntarily recalling one lot of this product as a precautionary measure due to the potential for microbial contamination. The affected lot may be contaminated with a strain of bacteria called Burkholderia cepacia. This bacterium may result in serious illness for certain individuals with compromised immune systems or chronic lung issues, such as cystic fibrosis.

Neither Health Canada nor Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix have received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of this product.

Number sold

Approximately 3,500 units of the recalled hair putty were sold in Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores across Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from April 2011 until July 8, 2011.
