Product description

This recall involves the Marshall Gardens Patio Glo Bio-Fuel pourable fuel gels packaged in 946 ml (32 ounces). clear plastic bottles sold with or without citronella. The label on the container says "PatioGlo bio-fuel gel" or "Citronella PatioGlo." The fuel is poured into a metal cup in the centre of ceramic firepots or other decorative lighting devices and ignited. The following products are included in the recall:

  • Model Number PG-32 SKU 845095015023
  • Model Number PGC-32 (Citronella) SKU 845095015030

Hazard identified

The pourable gel fuel can ignite unexpectedly and expel onto people and objects nearby when it is poured into a firepot that is still burning. This hazard can occur if the consumer does not see the flame or is not aware that the firepot is still ignited. Gel fuel that expels and ignites can pose a fire and burn risk to consumers including death.

Neither Health Canada nor the U.S. distributor, the Marshall Group, has received any reports of incidents in Canada. The Marshall Group has received four reports of incidents in the U.S, resulting in three injuries with burns requiring hospitalization.

Number sold

Approximately 4,200 bottles of the recalled fuel gels were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from March 2011 to August 2011.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the products and contact the Marshal Group for instruction on how to return the product to obtain a refund.
