Product description

This recall involves non-refillable MAP-Pro, Propylene and MAPP cylinders sold as replacement fuel and in torch kits under various brand names. The cylinders are approximately 8 centimetres (3 inches) in diameter x 28 centimetres (11 inches) tall and are yellow or black in colour

Hazard identified

The cylinder may leak after a torch or other device is disconnected from the cylinder. If the leak is large enough or is permitted to accumulate in an enclosed area and there is an ignition source, a fire could occur.

Neither Worthington nor Health Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of of these affected cylinders.

Number sold

1,371,055 of the recalled cylinders were sold in Canada and 29,026,020 in the United States at various plumbing/HVAC distributors, home improvement and hardware stores since 2004.

Time period sold

The recalled cylinders were sold from October 2004 to January 12, 2012.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the cylinder and return it to the store where it was purchased for exchange or a full refund by following these instructions:
    Action
Unused cylinder If the cylinder has never been connected to a torch or other device Do not use cylinder. Return cylinder to store where it was purchased for exchange or a full refund.
Partially used cylinder If the cylinder is currently connected to a torch or other device Do not disconnect the torch or other device. Take outdoors. Ignite the torch and burn off the entire contents of the cylinder. *Disconnect torch from empty cylinder. Dispose of empty cylinder per cylinder label instructions or return it to the store where it was purchased for exchange or a full refund.
Partially used cylinder If the cylinder has been connected to a torch or other device, but is not connected now Take cylinder outdoors. Leak test top of the cylinder with soapy water.
  • If bubbles develop, attach torch. Ignite torch and burn off entire contents of the cylinder. *Remove torch from empty cylinder. Dispose of empty cylinder per cylinder label instructions or return it to the store where it was purchased for exchange or a full refund.
  • If no bubbles develop, do not use cylinder. Return it to the store where it was purchased for exchange or a full refund
*Never leave lit torch and cylinder unattended. Use torch only in a well-ventilated area.
