Product description
This recall involves West Elm solid wood and fully assembled folding chairs sold in white, red or chocolate. The chairs were sold individually and in sets of two and four. An unfolded chair measures 43.2 centimetres (17-inches) wide by 48.3 centimetres (19-inches) deep by 78.7 centimetres (31-inches) high. A sticker on the underside of the seat reads "West Elm."
Hazard identified
The chair can collapse in normal use, posing a fall hazard to consumers.
Neither West Elm nor Health Canada has received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these chairs.
The firm has received 14 reports of collapsed, broken or cracked chairs. Of those reports, two consumers have reported minor injuries after falling from a collapsed chair, however medical attention was not required.
Number sold
Approximately 112 units of the recalled chairs were sold at the West Elm location in Toronto, ON.
Approximately 10,000 units of the recalled products were sold at West Elm In the United States.
Time period sold
The recalled chairs were sold from September 2011 to January 2012.
Place of origin
Manufactured in Malaysia.
