Hazard identified

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the recalled jewellery contains lead in excess of allowable limits. Under the Children's Jewellery Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to import, advertise or sell jewellery items that appeal primarily to children under 15 years of age and contain more than 600 mg/kg total lead.

Lead is very toxic to children, even at low exposure levels. Children can ingest lead when they chew, suck, or swallow jewellery items containing lead which can cause damage to their bodies. Potential health effects associated with exposure to high levels of lead include vomiting, diarrhea, convulsions, coma or even death.

Neither Health Canada nor Créations DPR Inc. has received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of these products.

For more information on the risks and symptoms of lead exposure, visit Health Canada's Web site It's Your Health: Effects of Lead on Human Health and Health Canada Advises Consumers of Lead and Cadmium Hazard in Children's Jewellery.
