Product description

This recall involves assorted rings from the Rebella collection with the model number SPRB93951 - PP18 - 4029753939517. Product code on the box 93951. The rings have a photo of a deer, an owl or the Rebella girl's face.

Hazard identified

Health Canada's sampling and evaluation program has revealed that the recalled rings contain lead in excess of allowable limits.

Under the Children's Jewellery Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to import, advertise or sell jewellery items that appeal primarily to children under 15 years of age and contain more than 600 mg/kg total lead.

Lead and cadmium are highly toxic, especially to children. A range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to lead and cadmium, including anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system. In extreme cases, there have been deaths.

Neither Health Canada nor Zatnick Inc. has received any reports of incidents or illnesses related to the use of these products.

Number sold

Approximately 174 units of the recalled jewellery were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled jewellery was sold from September 2010 to October 2012.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewellery away from children and return it to the point of sale for full refund.
