Product description

This recall involves 2014 Marin “MBX 50” boy’s bicycles with serial numbers HA14980xxxxxx and 2014 Marin “Tiny Trail” girl’s bicycles with serial numbers HA14982xxxxxx. The boy’s bicycles were sold only in red and the girl’s in purple. They were only sold in a 41-centimetre (16-inch) wheel size. The serial numbers of bicycles involved in the recall are only the ones noted above. The serial number is stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket, and also on a foil label, located on the underside of the base of the downtube of the bike, near the bottom bracket.

Hazard identified

The stem top caps on the affected models can loosen or come off during use causing the handlebars to loosen or separate during use, making the rider to lose control and crash under certain extreme conditions.

Neither Health Canada nor Marin Mountain Bikes, Inc. has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of these bicycles.

Number sold

Approximately 50 bicycles were sold in Canada and about 409 bicycles were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled bicycles were sold from September 2013 to January 2015 at various independent bicycle retailers in Canada and the United States.

Place of origin

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact Marin for information on receiving a free replacement stem.
