Classroom Select NeoRok Stools

Product description

This recall involves Classroom Select NeoRok Stools with a tilting and rocking feature that were sold in two sizes: 18 inches tall (46 centimetres) with Item Number 1496340 and 20 inches tall (51 centimetres) with Item Number 1496342.

The stools have a round black rubber seat insert with a solid color plastic seat and black rimmed base. The Classroom Select logo is printed on one side of the base, and the NeoRok name is printed on the other side of the base.

The stools were sold in the following 12 colours:

  • Cardinal (red)
  • Claret (maroon)
  • Ebony (black)
  • Imperial (blue)
  • Lilac (purple)
  • Marine (navy blue)
  • Nickel (silver)
  • Paprika (orange)
  • Periwinkle (light blue)
  • Pistachio (green)
  • Saffron (yellow)
  • Slate (grey)

Hazard identified

The stool can break when in use, posing a fall hazard.

Neither Health Canada nor School Specialty Inc. has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this product.

In the United States, School Specialty has received nine reports of stools breaking during use, including one report involving a concussion.

Number sold

Approximately 800 units were sold in Canada, and approximately 6,000 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from May 2015 through November 2015.

Place of origin

Manufactured in the United States.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled stools and contact School Specialty for a full refund or merchandise credit.

For more information, consumers can contact School Specialty toll-free at 1-877-204-3948 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. C.T., Monday through Friday.  Consumers may also visit the company’s website and click on “Product Recalls” on the bottom right.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission’s website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.

Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
