Product description

This recall involves Thule Sprint roof mounted bike carriers with product numbers 528, 569 and 569000 and a date code prior to August 2016. New and improved Thule Sprint bike carriers with the “Thule Bring It! Guarantee” logo on the bottom of the tray and with a date code of August 2016 or later are not included in the recall.

Hazard identified

The clamping mechanism, which is intended to secure the bicycle fork to the bike carrier, can fail.  This can cause the bicycle fork to fall out of the rack, posing a risk of the bicycle separating from the vehicle during transport.

Health Canada has not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this product.

Thule has received 10 reports in Canada where the bicycle fork came loose from the rack, but the rear wheel strap prevented the bicycle from leaving the car.  All incidents involved damage to the vehicle and/or the bicycle. No consumer injuries have been reported.

Number sold

Approximately 2,695 units were sold in Canada.

Time period sold

The recalled bike carriers were sold from December 1, 2013 to May 25, 2016.
