Product description

This recall involves Chimparoo TREK and Chimparoo MULTI 2.0 soft infant carriers for front (tummy to tummy), hip or back carry. The carriers are intended for use in carrying a single baby or toddler from birth up to 45 lbs. The TREK baby carrier is available in 18 colours: Juliet, Sol, Jazz, Lime, Ocean, Alizee, Amethyst, Onyx, Graffiti, Tango, Sunrise, Iris, Aquatera, Rosalee, Azur, Fiesta, Meli and Bio. The following model numbers are included in this recall: CS014, CS005 and CS006.

The carriers attach to the wearer with a waist belt and shoulder straps, secured by plastic buckles fixed with polypropylene straps. The belt and shoulder straps are adjustable.

The "Chimparoo" logo is embroidered on the front of the baby carrier. The recalled products were manufactured between May 1 and July 22, 2016. The production date can be found on the packaging, on the inside of the belt of the baby carrier and on the product registration card. 

Hazard identified

The carrier's side straps may loosen unexpectedly from the buckle, posing a fall hazard to the child in the carrier.

Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of this product.

L'écharpe Porte-bonheur inc.  has received one report of an incident where a shoulder strap loosened unexpectedly. No injuries were reported.

Number sold

Approximately 1,036 units of the recalled baby carriers were sold in Canada in various stores and online at www.chimparoo.ca and www.amazon.com, and approximately 131 units were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled products were sold from May 2016 to September 2016.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the affected baby carriers and contact L'écharpe Porte-bonheur inc. for a free product inspection. If the baby carrier has the recalled buckles, consumers should contact L'écharpe Porte-bonheur inc. immediately for free replacement buckles. No tools are required for the repair.
