Affected products

Trango Vergo Belay Device

Product description

This recall involves Trango Vergo belay devices with batch numbers 16159 and 16195. The products were sold in a variety of colours including blue, gold or purple and have the word "Vergo" on the front plate of the unit.

Hazard identified

The handle on the Vergo belay device can loosen causing device’s assisted braking capacity to malfunction, posing fall and injury hazards to climbers.

As of June 6, 2017, the company has received no reports of incidents nor injuries in Canada nor in the United States.

Number sold

Approximately 97 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 1997 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The recalled units were sold between October 2016 and April 2017.

Place of origin

Manufactured in USA.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately discontinue use of the affected belay devices and contact Great Trango Holdings, Inc. to exchange the product for a replacement. 

 For more information, consumers may contact Great Trango Holdings online and click on "Product Alerts", or via email, or call 800-860-3653 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. MT, Monday through Friday.

Consumers may view the release by the US CPSC on the Commission's website.

Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
