Joint recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and MAAX Spas Industries Corp.
Self-contained portable hot tubs and swim spas containing Delta UV model EA-4H-5 generators
This recall involves all self-contained portable hot tubs and swim spas manufactured by MAAX Spas between 2012 and 2014 that contain the Delta UV Model EA-4H-5 generator manufactured by Delta UV. The UV generators are used to sanitize the water inside the hot tub/swim spa and its plumbing. The affected hot tub/swim spa models sold with a Delta UV model EA-4H-5 generator are identified by the following model names/numbers:
- 461, 470, 471, 472, 480, 481, 482, 780, 781, 5200, 5300, 5400, 5600, 7000, 7500, 8000, 8500, DT6, ENV, ES, ESX, GRD, LT6, MON, MT6, NUG, PRS, RB4, RL4, RS1, RS2, XL4, XSD, XSP, and XSR.
These model numbers are listed as the first three to four digits of the hot tub/swim spa serial number, engraved onto a silver plate that is located on either the lower right or lower left corner of the front side of the hot tubs and swim spas.
On certain hot tubs and swim spas equipped with Delta UV model EA-4H-5 generators, moisture can accumulate on the connectors of the generator to the UV bulb, which can lead to an electrical arcing that can cause the unit to catch fire, posing a fire hazard.
As of March 8, 2018, the company has received four confirmed reports of incidents in Canada, and no reports of injuries or property damage other than to the UV generators themselves and the hot tub/swim spa’s inaccessible interiors. In the United States, the company has received two reports of incidents and no reports of injuries or property damage other than to the UV generators themselves and the hot tub/swim spa’s inaccessible interiors.
Approximately 630 units of the affected products were sold in Canada and approximately 550 were sold in the United States.
Time period sold
The affected products were sold to consumers between approximately January 2012 and June 2015.
Place of origin
Manufactured in United States.
