  • What to do: Consumers should inspect their corded window coverings and contact B&B Blinds for further instructions.

Affected products

Certain 1 inch mini-blind products sold from 2009-2019 manufactured by B&B Blinds and installed in homes in Alberta

Product description

The recall involves 1 inch mini-blinds manufactured by B&B Blinds Ltd. These blinds can be identified by a label identifying that they are made by B&B Blinds on the bottom rail and/or that they contain multiple operating cords tied together into one tassel.

Hazard identified

Health Canada has determined that the recalled blinds do not meet the Corded Window Coverings Products Regulations and pose a strangulation hazard. The various designs of the products do not properly address the hazards of exposed operating cords, which can create loops. Young children may pull looped cords around their neck causing a strangulation and entanglement hazard.

Children can become entangled in blind cords, which can quickly lead to strangulation and even death. Health Canada recommends cordless window coverings. For more information on the hazard, see Blind Cord Safety.

As of January 27, 2020, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

Number sold

Approximately 10,000 units of the recalled products were sold in Canada, concentrated in and around the Calgary Alberta area.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from 2009 to 2019.

Corded window covering products sold before 2009 were sold when the Regulation was not in place.
