Product description

This recall involves various dressers and cabinets offered under the Herman Miller brand and the Design Within Reach brand. The model number can be found printed on the back of the dresser or cabinet.

Hazard identified

The recalled dressers and cabinets can tip-over if not securely anchored to the wall, posing a tip-over and entrapment hazard than can result in serious injury or death to children. The dressers and cabinets do not meet the requirements of the recently updated ASTM Standard Safety Specification for Clothing Storage Units.

As of May 14, 2020, the company has received no reports of incidents and no reports of injuries in Canada. In the United States, the company has received one unconfirmed report of a tipover.  There have been no reports of injuries.

Number sold

Approximately 70 units of the affected Herman Miller products and 26 units of the affected Design Within Reach products were sold in Canada and approximately 1,356 Herman Miller products and 1,099 Design Within Reach products were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected Herman Miller products were sold from September, 2010 to January, 2020 and the affected Design Within Reach products were sold from September, 2016 to January, 2020.

Consumers should immediately stop using the dressers and cabinets and place the unit in an area where a child cannot access it. Consumers may contact Herman Miller for a full refund and free pick-up of the recalled unit.
